Deadwood Reads - A Great Event

This post was on the first page of my website. Since I changed it to promote The Chandler County books, I decided I needed to put this trip in a blog.

Celebrating after the long drive.

On June 7th, Cheryl Yeko, author and editor at Soul Mate Publishing, and I made a road trip to Deadwood, South Dakota for the Wild Deadwood Reads Author/Reader event. This was the first year for this event, but you’d never know from the fantastic way it was organized. 1880s train ride, trip to Mount Rushmore, a rodeo, ghost tours, bar crawls, and the best part – meeting authors and readers!!

It took fifteen minutes, a lot of rope, many cowboys, and extra bulls to get this one off the field.

The organizers are already hard at work planning for next year. One on of the things I'll be participating in is an anthology. All the stories will be set in and around Deadwood in any time frame we wish. It is going to be put in a book to be sold at the PBR rodeo on June 9th. This will be the only time it is available. All the proceeds will go to a charity. After the rodeo, the authors are able to do what they wish with their stories. I have ideas floating around, but no title, no characters. I do know it will be an historical and will be a story that will lead into a book.

On Friday, the 8th we will taking an all-day sightseeing tour which includes Keystone, a gold mine with panning for gold, a visit to Crazy Horse, then on to Hill City for wine/beer tasting. I believe we're going to be exhausted by the time we get back to Deadwood. Other events include the book signing on Saturday afternoon, a book reading, the PBR rodeo on Saturday, and visits with new and old friends. I can't wait.

While at the event this year, I talked to several authors about letting me interview them on my new radio show, Your Book Garden, with Authors on the Air Global Radio Network. Like the diversity of flowers

I met Dennis Woller and his lovely wife. Dennis will be on my radio show.

in a garden, my show will host authors in a variety of genres, both fiction and nonfiction. I'm busy training and planning my shows. The show will be on Tuesdays at 2:00 EST with the first show tentatively scheduled for the first of the year.
